Ambient Weather SRS100LX Temperature and Humidity Solar Radiation Shield

My Ambient Weather station came with a much smaller solar shield. Since, my placement of the weather station has it in the direct sun, I was getting deceptively high temperature readings. Ambient Weather SRS100LX Temperature and Humidity Solar Radiation Shield fixed that.

This temperature and humidity radiation shield is a low cost solution for protecting temperature and relative humidity sensors.

The passive shield is shaped to allow natural air convection around the sensor, so that the air temperature inside the shield is a good representation of the outside air. The shield also provides protection from rain and snow.

After having my temp sensor get buried in a block of ice from the snow coming off the roof for many weeks I figured I needed to “fix” the issue of the sun beating on the sensor, or ice encasing it.. This item does the job perfectly. My temp readings are now in sync with other weather stations nearby.

It was a breeze to assemble and now my temperature sensor is providing an accurate reading when it is in the sun.

If you have not looked at the product dimensions, look again, this thing is huge! It gets the job done however, and my sensor is reporting accurate temperatures and is protected from the rain and sun.

I have other temperature sensors located in other areas outside of the building and I have access to temperature readings from weather stations in the surrounding area. The readings I’m getting from the Oregon Scientific sensor inside the Ambient SRS100XL are right on the money, even when the sun is shining on the shield. I highly recommend this excellent product.

This product is a little expensive, but I think it is worth it for what it does. It was easy to assemble, and when ready install, can hang in a variety of ways, which is very handy. It seems to have stabilized my temperature swings I was experiencing with the included heat shield and it should, because it is at least three to four times the size. Overall very happy so far!

This solar Radiation shield works great with my ambient weather station. I give it 5 stars since it does give better reading on my temps sincerer and don’t have any problems.

I would recommend SRS100LX to anyone with an outside sensor that does not have a radiation shield. This is an absolute necessity if you want the weather station sensors mounted all together in the open.
