We purchased the Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA Advanced Weather Station with Atomic Time from Amazon after reading many reviews for many products. This product is well worth the cost via Amazon if you want a reliable measure of time, indoor and outdoor humidity and temperature. It was easy to set up, after reading the enclosed instructions, and the product has been working as advertised.
The temperature and humidity readings appear to be fairly accurate (within 1 degree F and 3%-5% humidity) in comparison to other measurements made in our neighborhood. At least it is close enough for our purposes.
Some of the complaints that other reviewers had appear to be related to not following setup procedures carefully. Setting the time zone (Central, in our case) under the manual mode, and then changing the mode back to automatic (atomic) provided us with the correct atomic time (we have 2 other devices that use atomic time) within an hour, and kept the time accurate ever since.
Another common complaint about Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA is that the display is difficult to read under less than ideal (bright) lighting conditions. I do not understand why some people say it’s hard to see. I can read it in all sorts of lighting conditions. The large display makes it especially easy to see the readings and on top of that, it has a back light!
You can set up multiple sensors, enabling you to monitor indoor and outdoor both temperatures, as well as specific rooms such as wine cellars. also this features a calendar and an EL Backlight for viewing in low light conditions. The Oregon Scientific Advanced Weather Station can help you to manage your environment, enjoy your day, life, to the fullest.
This weather station is very handy, I like that it has both indoor and outdoor humidity readings. It seems to be very accurate; I love to check out the stats in the morning and at night. By monitoring indoor and outdoor temps I can determine exactly when to open or close windows to maximize comfort/efficiency.
The forecast is somewhat accurate, but I don’t really rely on it as we all have internet and news these days. I mainly use it for the temperatures, humidity levels, and time.
In summary, if you want a low-cost weather station that has both indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity read outs, Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA Advanced Weather Station does the job and looks good, and is not as expensive as some of its comparable competition.
So, recommend this unit to anyone looking for a well rounded unit that provides a nice amount of data for a great price. I find it very easy to use. Sensor reception is consistently excellent.
Update after 1.5 years
Oregon Scientific BAR208HGA Advanced Weather Station is still going strong and is still ticking away on its original set of batteries! The outdoor sensor has seen everything from -28 to +112 degrees F and is working like a champ and is being received at 180 ft through 4 walls without any issues. What a great station for the money.
